SAFEDANE Goals

Our Goals

Give voice to law-binding citizens who desire and are entitled to safe communities. Seek their opinions, ideas, and remedies.

To help citizens restore peace and order in their neighborhoods, schools, and colleges including providing tools and methods that will assist them.

To support the police and sheriff in the lawful execution of their duties as peace offices.

To review crimes and public disturbances for (1) effective law enforcement, (2) causes, (3) impact, and (4) potential solutions.

To consult with public safety professionals, community groups involved with public safety and other interested persons throughout Dane County.

To research the causes for crime and unsafe communities and compile the data for committee and public review.

To educate the public as to their rights, remedies, and ways to access to law enforcement at all levels.

Review government activities, policy-making, law enforcement administration, and justice then make public that information and its conclusions. Recommend public policy and administration changes for public consideration, win public support, and seek government approval.

Work with all media to promote uncompromising public safety.

To insure that crime is justly punished and that peace officers, prosecutors, and judges that assist in that goal are supported. We support program alternatives as a possible option to incarceration one-time for a person who is charged with non-violent crimes.

Promote two-way communications between the public and law enforcement including an absolutely reliable 911 emergency reporting, two-way communications on neighborhood, school, college and community public safety concerns and events, guidance from law enforcement, and citizen reporting of safety problems the is heard and forms the basis for action.

To measure the results of public safety initiatives for their effectiveness so that continuous progress is made toward safety communities everywhere.

Monitor public opinion through scientific polling released to the public.

While public safety is the #1 priority of this committee, finding long-term solutions that address violent behavior, encourage civil obedience, make good neighborliness a priority, restore hope and opportunity for challenged persons, and create pathways to success for people who want to succeed is critical to long-term maintenance of our public safety.
